Well its Thursday and I'm still alive! I have made it through 3 out of my 4 tests this week and am pretty happy with the results thus far. The only one left is my Anatomy test tomorrow which is the hardest one of the week by far. For those of you in the healthcare field that know what the brachial plexus is...that's what this test is on. For those of you who don't know what it is...be glad!
Tomorrow is interview day for students who want to enter in the fall semester and I am volunteering after my test for a few hours to give tours and answer questions. I figured plenty of people gave their time up to help ease my stress and answer my questions when I came for my interview last July that it was only right that I help out tomorrow. But the best part will be when I'm all done and I'm headed to the beach (with sunscreen) to enjoy the lovely Florida sunshine! Can't wait until about 1:00 tomorrow gets here!
Also, this week we booked a Disney trip (surprise the Skinners are going to Disney) during my semester break! It will be sad to be there without Rebecca however, but I'm still happy to get some pixie dust in celebration of finishing first semester and preparing to start second! Hope everyone is looking forward to a lovely weekend!

Lilly the gorilla turns 1!!
So I know I just posted a whole life update and promised many things to come this week and this wasn't one of them, however this is such a neat and interesting story I just had to share it. Especially since I have ties to the Animal Kingdom and I was there just as they found out Kashata, a first time mom, was pregnant! I hope everyone reads her story and be sure to watch the short video of this cutey down at the bottom of the page!

sorry!!
So sorry everyone for being MIA this past week. So much has happened that it was one of those things where I needed to find enough time to write it all down. In my last blog I talked about my crafty preparation for the 80's party that happened Friday a week ago. It was a huge success and we were all dressed foolishly and loved it! That same Friday was the beginning of Mama and Papa's weekend visit. We had a great time hanging out, getting to see some of the St. Augustine sights, ate some excellent food (restaurant reviews to come soon!), and mostly just got to spend time with each other. They were here until Monday morning and it was sad to see them go but I'm very glad they came! This past week has been beautiful weather and we had no tests!! So it was relatively low stress and ended wonderfully with Friday afternoon spent on the beach in the sunshine and 77 degree weather :) probably half of our class was out there at some point. There were some surfers, some boys throwing a baseball, some people sunning and a big group playing beach volleyball (myself included!) We had a lot of fun, even if most of us did end up a little too red for the rest of the weekend!
The rest of this weekend has been spent with me and the books...next week starting Tuesday I have 4 tests in 4 days!!! Super stressful!
On a happier note---I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines Day! I got some very sweet cards and I want to thank you all for sending them! Even though I'm far away I was still feeling the love! ;)
Be on the lookout for some restaurant reviews, notes from my shadowing this past Tuesday and hopefully general signs that I still have my sanity as I go through this week!

getting crafty!
So as a studying avoidance and another way to help look forward to the weekend I took on a little crafty project today! Tomorrow night the beach house boys are hosting an 80s party! Now don't ask me why but I just love themed parties (as do most people in our class apparently) and especially after this hard, stressful week we are all really excited to dress up in our tackiest 80s clothes and have some fun. So I have acquired purple tights, an off-the-shoulder t-shirt, some scrunchies and some bright blue eyeshadow. But I was having a terribly hard time finding shoes that fit the obnoxiously colored bill. So I decided I would make some...I bought plain white, off-brand keds and painted them a lovely shade of lime green and then proceeded to apply the "splatter painting" technique in pink, aqua, and purple. Now I have to warn you, this is not the easiest thing to do and there were a few mishaps but I'm sure Layla hasn't even noticed the random dots of color ;) Hope everyone has had a great week and are looking forward to a great weekend!
PS--super excited because the parents are coming tomorrow!!!

cultural experience of the month :)
So I guess you could say that I had my cultural experience for February last night. A group of us decided we had lots of studying that needed to get done this weekend with 2 practicals (or lab tests) and 1 written test coming up this week so we would do something low key on our Friday night. We decided on bowling. That's right bowling. And not just any bowling, "glow bowling"! Now I have never been a huge bowling fan, probably because I'm not very good at it, but I was assured that no one else was very good either and we were just going to have some fun and do something different. The verdict -- fun we did have! And we got to see some very interesting locals who came out to enjoy this interesting hobby which is always fun. There was even a group of young teenagers who showed up, one of which looked young enough (and pregnant enough) to apply for a certain hot MTV show. The best part was just letting loose with people from school since we spend so much time being super serious and focused with each other and with our studies. I've also taken some time for myself this weekend and watched two movies I rented: Going the Distance and The Kids Are All Right. Both were good in their own way, and now I understand all the awards buzz about The Kids Are All Right because the 2 leading ladies put on excellent performances.
Upcoming this week I have my first practical in Anatomy lab and in my Skills and Procedures lab on Wednesday as well as a written test on Friday in Skills. Looks like its going to be a busy week...at least its relatively warm here! Gotta love Florida!

Palatka Health Care Center
Today was my first day of shadowing and it was with an occupational therapist at Palatka health care center which is a skilled nursing facility about 45 minutes from here. It was definitely an interesting day and I learned a lot. The best part of the day was actually getting to see therapy and see how it relates to the classes that I'm taking right now. Joshua is the only OT at this facility so he sees pretty much every patient they have there at some point. They have both long term and short term patients there and we got to see a pretty good range of both. It was also a good experience because I feel stronger about my choice in leaning towards pediatrics. Although I was more interested in the care I saw to today than I thought I would be, I still think I can cross nursing home off the list. Still a good day that I didn't have to sit in a classroom though!
